ADHD: THE FUNDAMENTALS
ADHD is a woefully inadequate and downright misnomer for a highly complex neurodevelopmental condition and as a society, we had a duty to understand and manage the treatment of it better. The ADHD brain is scientifically proven to differ in structure, chemistry and function to a neurotypical brain. That is why ADHD impacts an individual’s entire internal response system, causing their attention, activity, emotions and impulse control to be dysregulated, affecting EVERY SINGLE THING that they THINK, SAY and DO. It’s very important that ADHD is understood in this way, as a condition of DYSREGULATION, rather than dismissing it as a “disorder of attention”.
As leading expert Dr James Kustow says – and I attest to: “While medication is by far the most commonly employed option to treat ADHD, due to the weight of evidence behind it, optimal management is more nuanced than shifting the biology alone. There needs to be a multidisciplinary approach to managing ADHD, one underpinned by high-quality psychoeducation and including therapeutic interventions (such as ADHD coaching). Only with the foundation of knowledge about ADHD can an individual with the condition begin to take the key steps that lead to a committed life-style optimisation, step into the creative and targeted workarounds and a new mindset to thrive at life with ADHD.”
ADHD life coaching helps people to minimise the challenges they are facing with ADHD and leverage their strengths. Whatever your gender or age (16+) I work with you as your ADHD Life Coach to identify the specific challenges that you are experiencing and understand what you want to change in your life (goals big and small). Over a course of regular coaching sessions I collaborate with you, brainstorming and honing tailor-made solutions and unique strategies with the aim of bridging the gap between your current experience of life and how you wish it to be. Through this partnership and the inherent accountability of the coaching process, I empower you to make significant changes to your life, with positive and lasting results.
“Common challenges [of ADHD], such as time management, organization, goal setting and prioritization are often issues that medication or therapy do not address, { } the focus of ADHD coaching is on building skills and taking action. It helps people to improve their business focus, interpersonal skills and ability to get things done in such a way as to lead a more productive, fulfilling and rewarding life.” – Dr Edward Hallowell, renowned child and adult psychiatrist and New York Times bestselling co-author of Driven to Distraction, the book that sparked a revolution in universal understanding of ADHD.
